Prodex Connect can configure and support deployment of this technology with our client Acteon / UTEC
Setting the Scene:
- Using a digital twin like iSite to capture and hold plant data is common amongst Energy companies.
- Images are captured using laser scanners (at £50k a go) to create a point cloud and photogrammetry images.
- These allow users to walk around the plant and take measurements from the system for design scopes.
- Updating the information can take time and need specialist contractors to run the scanners and process the large volumes of data created.
The Gap Closer:
- Using “influencer” technology UTEC have taken the Insta360 camera technology and bundled it with a tablet-based application to allow users to locate, capture and then upload high quality 360° images into the iSite direct from the asset.
- No special mobilisations.
- Captured by site staff.
- Pinned into the existing coordinate system for full geospatial referencing capability.
User friendliness (As easy as Sync, Pin, Snap and Go!)
- Sync your iSite plot plans to the tablet complete with previous self capture set ups.
- Head out to site with the Insta360 camera.
- Connect tablet to camera with WI-FI.
- Put camera somewhere useful (up high, under deck, on a walkway up a ladder, the choice is yours).
- Locate yourself on the plot plan and pin the position to the page.
- Stand back out of shot (no one likes to become a historical reference).
- Tap the screen and to capture the image.
- Review and save, flip if necessary and then repeat as required.
- On return the office, Sync updates with the iSite in the cloud and view your output from anywhere (asset, onshore office, contractors team etc)
Business use cases
- Used widely to capture decommissioned asset as left status.
- Warehouse content by shelf (see the item not just the reference code).
- Survey data direct from site in real time.
- Under deck or at height with “selfie poles” or into voids where you cant get to.
Quote from a Project Manager:
“The iSite360 technology has made collaboration and planning between site and support team in real time a possible. Flat 2D photos can be useful but the ability to turn around and see the access route to the location is a real bonus. The simplicity of the app to capture, process and upload the images to a controlled domain has saved us many frustrating hours at the desk converting and locating the files where they were captured. Everyone can see the output and get benefit from it. We had the tablets already, so it was just the camera to acquire. At a price point of a few hundred pounds its covers its costs in one use in terms of man hours saved.”
